I did not realize that it was an ironic essay until that point in paragraph 10. I am not your usually english reader but I had been bewildered at the beginning of the essay and was not sure where it was going. After starting paragraph 10 I realized that he was writing an ironic piece and using his imagination to discuss a problem that no one can answer, the burden of the poor on society.
Swift sounds pretty legit until paragraph 10. His argument is seemingly well presented and at the time it was in the form of a pamphlet, which was how people did things at that time. After paragraph 10 though it's pretty obvious he is being ironic
I think Swift sounds very prompt and serious up until Paragraph 10. He makes logical points and defends his argument. I didn't feel it was ironic until paragraph 10, out of his mind yes but not ironic until paragraph 10 ;)

ReplyDeleteI believe it is made apparent a bit before paragraph 10 because it starts to get more ridiculous and extreme.

ReplyDeleteAbout para. 10, it was the shear shock and then you have to tell your self, really?
