I believe that the last paragraph is to let the reader know that he was not serious and in all of his jesting that he had the interest of the country at heart.
Swift cares for his country and has no true feelings about his proposal meaning he would never act upon it. He just wants there to be peace and happiness in his country.

ReplyDeleteSwift seems to announce his pride and love for his country. He only wants to see it do well and he wasn't serious about his proposals.
ReplyDeleteTo blatently place his real views and show his intentions and clear up any doubt that this was a satire.
ReplyDeleteI know from history that some people just don't get satire unless you clearly label it SATIRE!
ReplyDeleteHe was stating that he only has love for his country, and he wanted to state that loud and clear that is was satire.
ReplyDeleteIt was his way of saying, "if you didn't get it at first, read it again, joke's on you."
