Right away, let's establish the idea of "who really loves King Lear" and "who really speaks the truth?" Starting with the three sisters--which one is Lear's "true" daughter and how does she show it? How does Lear react to this?
Lear's true daughter and the one that actually loves him is Cordelia. When he commands his daughters to say which one of them loves him the most his two oldest daughters please him with flattery and tell him that they love him more than anything else which was not true but they wanted his shares of the Kingdom. When he asks Cordelia she basically says she loves him exactly as much as a daughter should love her father and her sisters wouldn't have husbands if they loved him as much as they say. This angers Lear and he disowns Cordelia and splits his kingdom between his two oldest daughters.
I think that truly Cordelia loves her father the most. She says she loves him so much she doesn’t have the words to describe her love. That however, makes him angry because she doesn’t say anything like the other two daughters do and he disowns Cordelia.
Cordelia was the only daughter that really loved her father. She shows her love by telling the truth about her feelings and not stroking her father's ego with flowery words and lies. The older two daughters were very selfish and could care less about him only his money and property, but they were very good at saying what he wanted to hear. King Lear is so angry at the fact that Cordelia does not express her feelings in a way he thought she should that he disowned her and divided up her land among the other two sisters.
King Lear's true daughter is Cordelia. She is the truest of them all because when she is asked by her father how much she loves him she replies by stating that there aren't words to describe her love for him. King Lear takes that the very wrong way. Because of his selfishness and ego he wanted to hear praiseful, loving, kind words about himself and when she had none he disowned her. He didn't understand that her love for him was so great that she was speechless about it. It was a positive answer not a negative one like King Lear took it. She was loving enough to tell the truth about her feelings and that alone is love.
Cordelia defently loves Lear the most and shows it by being honest with him. She also knows him so well she knows why he askes the question of who loves him most, and she doesn't fall for it. Instead, Cordelia uses this moment to show Lear the truth that the other two were lying to him in the first place. This is a great mark of love and respect, only those you trust will you be so open to. This makes him unhappy, showing that he refuses to see sence and the truth.
Cordelia appears to be the most sincere in her love of her father. However, she refuses to play his game, which in turn, makes Lear angry and he disowns her by separating his kingdom between the other two girls.
