Discuss the role of the FOOL in this play. Does he love Lear? How does he show it? What can the Fool do (get away with) that no other character can? Why??
The fool is King Lear's jester. He can get to King Lear like no one else can which I think expresses his love for him. He wouldn't give him advice and help if he didn't love him. He gives his advice through silly songs and uses double talk.
The fool was really the one man who could say what he thought with out getting killed. He really loved Lear as a friend. He would cheer him up if he was down, give advise as best as he could through riddles only the king and him would get, and he didn't leave his side. Even throught the storm, the Fool stayed with him and offered his hat to try to keep him worm.
