Edgar had everything, but that was all taken away from him. He dosne't want anyone to figure out it's him so he acts crazy to scare people off, like a child locking him/herself in their room. Lear's madness is a mixture of old age and the treatment he got from his daughters. He has gone completly out of his mind due to overwhelming situations, after all they were very clear they wanted him dead. Lear's seems more like an anxiety attack more so than a real brake down of the mind.
