  1. The setting of this story is in the days of King Arthur on the isle of Britain.

  2. On page 282. in the essay before the prologue, is uses the word MISOGYNIST--what does that mean? This is a pretty darn important concept to the Wife of Bath.

  3. I think it is the act of hating or disliking women and girls. It can occur in several different ways such as sexual violence, verbal abuse, or just plain sexism towards the female group in society.

  4. I believe it is saying that men were more important or revered in society during those times and women were not seen in that same standard.

  5. Misogynist is the concept of both men and women not being on the same playing field; it means that men are more important and the women of society are below the men. Men were definitely favored over women then.

  6. The tale itself was during the time of King Arthur. The idea is that they feel that women were second class citizens and that men were suppost to rule over them. The whole idea of the knight in the tale was to show how women wanted to have a role in their life. The story was to try to explain that not all women were bad and they did desirve some control like the control the queen had at court.

  7. One thing I find interesting is that even though they are misogynistic, they still find raping a lowly maiden a crime punishable by death--that seems very disconnected in some way to me. Duality of man??
