Wife of Bath #10

What two options does the Hag present the Knight?  What option does he choose (trick question!)? How does the hag then change?

  1. In the end, the Hag tells the knight she can be ugly on the outside, but be a faithful and loyal wife to him, or she can be beautiful on the outside and cheat on him. The Knight doesn't pick either option, he tells the Hag to pick what she thinks would be best. The Hag turns into a woman who is beautiful on the outside AND loyal and faithful because the Knight gave her the power to choose and be in control.

  2. She gives him the options of her being beautiful and young but will go to whoever her heart desires (other men) or she will be ugly but will not cheat on him and be loyal. The knight allows her to decide, offering her sovereignty. Because he has learned humbleness and and respect for his wife, she turns into a beautiful woman and vows to be faithful to him and they live happily ever after

  3. She tells him she could be his beautiful yet cheating wife or a ugly yet faithful wife. When he told her to choose she became both beatiful and loyal to him.

  4. She gives him the option of her becoming a physically beautiful woman who would not be faithful nor truly loving, or she could turn herself into a physically ugly woman but would be loyal and loving to him. He has learned to respect women and his soon to be wife, so he gives her the choice to choose instead and she gives him the best of both worlds.
