Wife of Bath #11

How does the Tale of the Wife of Bath connect to her message in the prologue?  How might her story be a type of wish-fulfillment for aging?

  1. The Tale of the Wife of Bath connects to her message in the prologue because by the time she knows what it is like to truly love someone she just wants to be loved back but because she is old and faithful she receives no true love in return from her 5th husband. The message connects because she realizes it's important to always love no matter what and display a true sense of concern. It's important to be faithful and loyal because like the golden rule "what you give is what you get." Because she was youthful, wild, and controlling as a young wife when her older husbands simply wanted love she got the same in return when she was older. She didn't know how to give love therefore who could love her? The old hag in the tale shows the true meaning of faithfulness and loyalty- beauty is from the inside not the money and sex.

  2. She was the type in her youth that would run around on you. Now that she was older she just wants to be loved. Her current husband she married because she loved him but he isn't as loving as she is to him, even when she is loyal to him.

  3. I think the tables are turned on her--her current husband treats her like she treated her first 3 husbands. Turn about is fair play!
